About the artist:

Born in Cape Town South Africa, Faye Hofmann started her creative journey at school, majoring in painting for her final works. She then went on to qualify and work in fashion design and later personal styling, while also nurturing her love for painting, particularly inspired by the raw urban and natural landscapes by which she was surrounded. Specializing in color and its impact on people, she has a particular love for the story that color can tell, whether it’s being worn as a garment, or hanging on the wall in a home.

Relocating to Switzerland in 2010, Faye continued to paint, but initially avoided the picturesque landscapes of the foothills of the Alps where she lived, because its gentle, post-card beauty was difficult for her to relate to at a personal level, and so she focused on still-life and portrait work.

After 10 years living in the countryside, Faye felt that the scenes spoke to her in a different way. They convey unchanging strength and serenity, a promise of consistency and calm - a striking contrast to the very volatile and changeable world that we live in. This language of depth and longevity challenged Faye to express it through carefully captured scenes familiar to people that have dwelt here over the centuries. In her latest series “A timeless place”, she aims to create a tangible and contemporary experience of this reassuring permanence, with the use of expressive texture and colour. The works have been well received by both lovers of art and the landscape, and earned her a place in the Artbox short list for sponsorship at the Swiss Art Expo 2022.

Her latest series will be shown at a solo exhibition on the 14th-18th September 2022 in Haus Am See, Unterägeri. She currently is accepting commissions for bespoke paintings bringing her client's "happy places" into their home space.
